You can make a copy, remove all pictures there and look how large it is 
then. If it still too large remove all paragraphs but one in each 
chapter. You can sent the document to me then.

You can edit the styles. The question is how you do it. The Navigator 
shows all lines which are formatted in a way, that they are marked as 
heading. For example, if you set in style "Contents 1" in tab 
"Numbering" the "outline level" to "Level 1", then the TOC items are 
listed in the Navigator.
