Thanks, I got it working, but I'm still puzzled by something...
in >tools>language a selection for Dutch now shows up, but... I can set
the language only 'for selection' and not either 'for paragraph' or 'for
all text' --- or is it that I can do it, but the checkmark (v) does not
show?
not sure what the problem is... and yes I was aware that language is
defined at the character level, but it should somehow be possible to
define the language for a whole doc at once.

I've installed a dictionary (Dutch) and it appears to be available in
tools/language settings/writing aids, but it's not available when I try
to
set the language of a document? What gives?
Hello Rogier,
Did you define the language of the document, either in its style
(Format>Styles (Control-T)) or in direct formatting
(Format>Character>Font>Language) ?
When the dictionary is properly installed, it should have a v-sign
next to it in the list of languages in Font-Language (as well as in
the preferences page you mention >language settings>languages>standard
language
The language is a characteristic of the Character (letter in Dutch)
and can be defined for a single word, a sentence, a paragraph or an
entire text.
Hope thie helps - or else try to explain more in detail what you
do/whathappens.
