Thank you very much for replying.
I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. I am using LibreOffice 3.4.2 OOO340m1 (Build:203)
Xara Xtreme doesn't support that format. I downloaded it this morning and tested it. The
Xara Pro Designer 7 doesn't support the format either. However Xara will open Acorn .DRW files.
I have been checking the difference between Inkscape and Plain SVG files. I can't find a
difference now. They both open if Inkscape and LO doesn't open them properly. There appears to be
no difference between them. Maybe I am forgetting something that happened. However I am not sure
if Inkscape is saving in Plain SVG anyway. It has a dialogue box that says you are saving a file
in an inferior version of SVG would you like to save as inkscape SVG or Cancel or Continue Without
Saving. The file named Plain SVG that I had saved was still there after I had finally closed the
dialogue box.
Although the SVG files will open with the Gimp, the text is messed up. Some of the text is
not in the original boxes.
LO will open the files in Drawing, but with no text at all! Embedding the images in a Writer ODF
document is even worse using the Insert->Picture route. This produces the lines, but they are all
messed up with lines going back on themselves like triangles. Maybe these are existing dark links
in the file. Again no text.
Note that All the SVG files open in Safari and Firefox also Internet Explorer 6 in Windows XP.
One final point, how do you get the email list to do paragraphs with line feeds? When my
first post was posted to the list, all the new lines for change of paragraphs were removed! I have
indented each para with 5 spaces - tabs don't work on yahoo mail website!

Could you tell us what LibreOffice you are using?
3.3.# or 3.4.#
Currently 3.3.4 is out for that line, while 3.4.2 is out for its, along with the previous versions.
What MAC OS are you using?
It is always nice to know that a specific version is working well on a specific OS for one of LO's
users.
For my part I have only use Windows and Ubuntu/Linux version of it.
I also use Inkscape now, but I came from Corel Draw vector graphics when I ran Windows as my
default OS, but Ubuntu is my on my desktop as my default OS, with Windows on only one laptop.
I did not know about the issues between "Inkscape SVG" and "Standard SVG" and other packages,
thanks.
I wonder if "Xara Xtreme" supports that .DRW format?

I have 2 Freelance Graphics .DRW files that I have been converting to other formats by various
means. I have generated SVG files using Inkscape on the mac and Sketch on the mac. I have also
generated an SVG file from a ODP presentation produced from one of the .DRW files.
The SVG file generated by the ODP presentation won't import into LibreOffice Drawing. You get
the lines but not the text. The embedding option Insert->Picture route into Writer is even worse
the lines are displayed wrongly and you don't get text.
What sort of SVG files does LibreOffice produce? After doing considerable work on this, I am of
the conclusion that the SVG format is particularly flakey, or the programs that are supposed to
edit it are dreadful. The SVG file generated by LibreOffice looks better in preview on the Mac
than the SVG files generated by Inkscape.
Another curious thing is that the "Inkscape SVG" files I have generated are better (Open in more
programs and are more reliable) than the "Standard SVG" files generated by Inkscape. Sketch
seems to be worse at SVG import than Inkscape. This is particularly dreadful since Sketch is a
paid for program. I am using a trial version. On this basis I won't be paying for it when the
trial runs out.
Other than that LibreOffice is much better than Open Office. With Open Office on the mac I had
to have NeoOffice as well. The fonts in Open Office weren't very good, at low zooms you got
screen corruption. NeoOffice corrected this problem, however NeoOffice doesn't use VoiceOver the
mac screenreader. I don't use VoiceOver as a rule, but I wan't a program that can use it if
necessary. NeoOffice management have said that they don't support VoiceOver, that I think is
reprehensible. LibreOffice on the other hand does support VoiceOver and solves the font
corruption problem. So I have got rid of NeoOffice. Also sine NeoOffice is a paid for program
(where you have to pay before you try) I have gone to the far better free LibreOffice.
I really would like to get a proper SVG file generated for these 2 .DRW files, that I can
archive, and have confidence that I will find a program that will be able to read this "standard"
format in the future. Note that both the Inkscape and LibreOffice SVG files display in a web
browser. I have already got PDF and EPS files from these 2 .DRW files, I just wanted to have
more options for the future.
Thank you very much for your attention.
