Is it happening when you try to highlight text?
Yes but only if the bucketfill is used and it happens when using font colour
bucketfill too.

I believe you ran into this bug:

It looks like a work-around is mentioned, but I suspect it may not be
ideal. Let us know if this is indeed the bug you are referring to.
Yes, comment 4 by sasha.libreoffice describes my problem but i will need to
work out how to undock the
standard toolbar and dock it on the left or right margin to try the
work-around.
I intend to register and comment on that freedesktop.org thread and report
back with my findings.
Hi :)
It is a good idea to comment in the bug report or at least somehow register that
you have similar problem. It's handy if you say which OS(es) and which
version(s) of LO you have had problems with. If that's only 1 OS and 1 version
then it's still likely to be appreciated.
I think you undock the toolbar by clicking on the toolbar itself rather than any
of the buttons, usually near the start of the toolbar tho, and then just drag it
to where you want. It should 'snap' into place at the sides. I think you can
do the same with task-bars in most OSes although it's part of the taskbars
properties in Gnome (just to be different).
Regards from
Tom :)
