There's a "Slides per row" button on the slide sorter tool bars.

Subject: [libreoffice-users] Slide pane in Impress / LibreOffice 3.4.0
Hi
The new version of Impress doesn't allow me to have a slide pane with
2 or 3 slides per row anymore - is that supposed to be a feature? I am
using LibreOffice 3.4.0 (OOO340m1 (Build:12)) on Linux Mint 10. Any
tips on how to get that functionality back, which is so useful as a
preview/overview when creating long slideshows?
