Hindsight is always perfect, but perhaps the final test should have
been to switch off computer and switch back during your preceding
evening testing.

Did you have to do this during the presentation or by discovery at a later date.

Is it not possible to have a linux netbook dedicated for LO presentations?

As an alternative LaTeX beamer class may be helpful. Not used
personally the audio feature, but with this class a presentation could
be produced in ubiquitous pdf with audio embedded.
