You're still not answering my initial question, which is: What the heck
do I do, if anything, with this file, which is one of the FOUR files
provided on the download page for pre-release versions of LibO:
LibO-URE_3.4rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz

All I want to know is whether to install that FIRST, or after the
regular LibO install file (the one you've mentioned here), or do I not
need to install the LibO-URE file at all?

I'm getting these files from this page:

My apologies: I've never downloaded or used it. I'll give it a go & see
if I can figure out what/why.

Solved that (somewhat); installing
libreoffice3.4-ure_3.4.0-1_i386.deb
(LibO-URE_3.4rc1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz)
breaks my 3.4.0B5 install.

$ /opt/libreoffice3.4/program/soffice
/opt/libreoffice3.4/program/oosplash.bin: /usr/lib/libuno_sal.so.3:
version `UDK_3.11' not found (required by
/opt/libreoffice3.4/program/oosplash.bin)

So... don't install it.

Thanks for checking on that. I've been out all afternoon and found this
note from you when I got back. I've now installed LibO3.4rc1, apparently
successfully, and without that URE file.

I've also installed it on WinXP (where at least there was only one file
to deal with) and will be doing the same on Mac OS X, probably tomorrow.
Moving on...
