Hi :)
It might be better to post gui ideas to the Design Team i think?

What are place liners?  I know that pdf allows something similar to web-links so 
that lines in the Contents Table are clickable and jump to the relevant 
section.  I don't know what that type of link is called?

Well, maybe they could add some placer-lines, just like Adobe has.

I made some little screenshots (putted in one image) for example:

I don't know if I'm here at the right place to give some suggestions for
some better GUI?
Can I post GUI idea's here or is there a special page for suggestions?
