If the SharePoint server is using SSL then you can staill map a drive letter with Vista 
and above using a special UNC convention...

Yeah, but will you able to save your document with a comment? Will you
be able to list version of a document? There are a lot of other features
which are not available via WebDAV, as far as I know.
