You can see such non-printing characters in Writer by using View /
Nonprinting characters or (at least in Windows) the key combination of
Ctrl+F10.

Oops ... I should have paid attention to the subject line.
When you open the Find & Replace dialog box, click the 'More Options'
button and place a check mark in the 'Regular expressions' box. A list
of expressions can be found at
