I have this problem sometimes, too! Usually Ctrl+S works as you know. But
sometimes while doing Ctrl+S all LO windows are closed (or vanished), the
starter is closed. When I start LO again it find the closed files and I
can restore it. But after this dialog these  LO files turn up again. 
I think they were not closed but only vanished from the desktop (not
verified).

The very large problem after that:
- the restored file (above dialog) is a very old file
- the other (still opened in the background) is the newer one!

Now I know that. But you can lost a work of some hours if you take the
restored file!
