Try renaming ~/.libreoffice and see if that changes things. (You'll have to rebuild your
customizations.) I had a similar problem on a Win7 install, but the *buntu installs have been fine.

Subject: [libreoffice-users] Instant crash on startup
This has happened to me twice now.
When I open a document in writer and it is the first LO open of
anything on my system, writer comes up, shows the window and then
crashes before the cursor appears in the window. When I restart it,
it comes up in the document recovery window, recovers the document
just fine and then runs as if nothing happened.
