Under KDE I do not get the quickstarter icon in the system tray, however it
does appear in Vista. As I find it quite useful in Vista, I was mainly
trying to ascertain whether it should appear in KDE, or not as it is in my
case. If it is not meant to appear under KDE than I will happily deselect it
and check the loading times are not affected as you suggest.

Quickstarter shows up in my system tray on Mandriva 2010.2. And yes, it
does start in an instant. I haven't suffered any bugs as of yet. I
normally turn it off if I know I may need some more RAM space. Seems to
work OK.
