Yes, I had a bunch of apps working: LibO, Thunderbird (I run an online 
mag and get quite a few emails/hr), Firefox (2 windows in edit mode on 
websites), Pidgin.

Anyway, the problem is as you described, it stops at the spinning lady 
and freezed the computer. I'm sure there could have been a different way 
of backing out, but I am always on the look out for ways that an 
ordinary user would take on the way out ... I am also on the Mageia team 
and this is good to know for feedback.
