David;
I usually install .deb packages using the included gui GDebi installer.
The filetype is already set to be opened automatically by the installer, so:
1. Launch Nautilus
2. Navigate to the .deb file
3. Click on the .deb
(and GDebi should launch automagically). More on GDebi here:
gdebi is a simple tool to install deb files. It lets you install local
deb packages resolving and installing its dependencies. apt does the
same, but only for remote (http, ftp) located package repositories.
It has a graphical user interface but can also be used in your terminal.

hope that helps,

Hi, :-)
I've downloaded the latest beta for Ubuntu (.deb). I unzipped it into
a folder, but I can't figure out how you're supposed to install it,
and I can't find any instructions anywhere...
Can anyone advise? TIA if so. :-)
