------

Decided to take LibO Beta 2 for a test run on something serious.

So having a go at setting up an html form.

File New / Html Document

Wanted to do two things:

1) Want to set up for pixel units, so went under Menu://Tools /
Options / "Libre Office Writer/Web" / View

And there at the bottom right Settings: "Measurement unit" - looked
for pixel not there so thought "point" might do, but noticed something
called "char"
Hit F1, then at the bottom of the help page clicked on the link for
Units. This brought me to "Conversion of measurement units" but
"char" is not listed there or explained, the others are.

Any one got any ideas of how to get pixel measurement for web pages,
or what "char" is please, I can't think what it would mean in a web
context - is it like <tt> ?

2) Want to set controls anchors for a default placement of "Page" not
the present "As Character" - how can I change the default behaviour
for this please?

-- some how Form Controls completely disappeareed and I could not add
any more check boxes etc, I turned it back on from the View /Toolbars
menu, I don't know how or when it disappeared, but dissapear it did!

So then, I cleared my document down to just a label at the top.

I had not yet saved it, and then clicked the HTML view icon on the
toolbar at the top.

I was prompted to save it as HTML as expected.

I did, then got a cryptic message box saying that the document had not
been completely saved, no further explanation (image attached
libre_office_incomplete_save.png). [Sorry found out images wont go
thorugh LO mail lists]

This HTML showed (below) with no labvel, label text, or fonting I had
applied to the label, but an empty SPAN instead.

The charset=windows-1252 setting, I'll probably want to change the
default for new document (HTML and other) to UTF-8

I then hit the HTML source button again and my label was still there
with my text in side it (as in attahced PNG
libre_office_incomplete_save.png).

I went back to HTML source, but no text within the span etc .. missing.

This time when I clicked asgain to go out of HTML source to WYSIWYG
editing, I came in to a plain wordprocessor looking environement (PNG
attached libre_office_where_have_web_tools_gone.png) no HTML or form
tools now showing, my grid layout had dissapeared etc nothing
specifically for web work. And now my label at the top completely
gone!

Though the document stiill showed as HTML in the second part of the
status panel at the bottom (image attached).

Dear Andy,

That not being able to attach PNGs is going to slow things down a bit
a picture being worth a thousand words.

The file appears to only be the HTML I pasted in previously - that's
part of my problem - there is nothing more to attach and send.

I am now almost convinced that the Labels, even if an INPUT text field
has them assigned, are not saved in the HTML at all.

This HTML portion here should show two text labels and a text input in
the browser, SPANs are generated, but they contain no text.

Andy Brown to discuss

Can you send me a copy of the original file to have a look at? Save
it as an .odt.

----

Dear Andy,

You caught me just in time, due to space needs I was nearly going to
take LibreOffice off and put OOO 3.21 on instead.

Can you send me a copy of the original file to have a look at? Save it as
an .odt.

Thats part of the problem as well, I used to be able to do that in OOO ...

But now while in an HTML document Save As is only offering me these types:-

HTML Document (.html)
OpenOffice.org 1.0 HTML template (.stw)
TEXT (OpenOffice Writer/Web) (.txt)
Text Encoded (OpenOffice Writer/Web) (.txt)
HTML Document Template (.oth)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13401476/libre_office_save_as_missing_odt.png

I'll keep LibreOffice on while we work this through.

Paul
