There is a movement for Ubuntu as well as other Linux distributions to 
make it easier to download/install/update/run packages.  Many people 
will not move over to Linux since they believe that it is more difficult 
to use.  The automatic update feature [yes Windows has it as well] makes 
life much easier to keep track of the updates out there, or at lease 
what is in the repositories.  Having LibreOffice in the Linux 
repositories is a good thing.  First it tell the "world" that since 
Oracle is not really serious enough with supporting their Openoffice.org 
package, Linux distros will be using LibreOffice instead.  Also that may 
state that of the two packages, if you need to choose only one for you 
repositories, they are choosing the better package, i.e. LibreOffice.

I to choose, currently, to install LibreOffice from the web site's 
install files instead of doing it through a PPD[?] or through a 
not-released-yet repository.  It is safer that way.  Then there is the 
fact the distros sometimes change the packages to make them "their own 
versions", so it may be better to use the LibreOffice web site version.
