Howdy,
First - this is of course not a TDF official team.
BOINC, I'm guessing many of you know what this is. A distributed system
where people can dedicate some CPU/GPU cycles from their computers for the
computation needs of certain academic projects. For those who do not some
details available here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/
BOINC supports creation of teams and these teams can if they choose take
part in challenge contests with other teams. It is all for bragging rights
and a way to have some fun while doing something worthwhile.
So - a few years back (2012) I setup a BOINC Wide team named LibO
Crunchers. I then did pretty much nothing to promote it, but kept at least
one computer (a netbook running 24/7) hooked up and working on projects
through about 2017, at which time I retired the machine and kind of forgot
about it.
Very recently, realizing the team was still registered with a couple of
projects at BOINC setup on another machine and started it 'crunching
numbers' on tasks again.
I would like to do something I didn't do back in 2012 and try to actually
generate some interest in getting other folks to join up. To that end;
First, I would would like to use a page on the TDF wiki as a Team website,
which is why this email - I won't do that if folks would rather I didn't.
The BOINC team was registered with the following options;
Name: LibO Cruncers for LibreOffice boosters.
Type: Non Profit Organization
Location: International
Participation by individuals and teams can be reflected through badges
issued by the BOINC network. There are multiple statistic systems which
offer this service each supports only a subset of languages and subsets of
academic instiutiions. The LibO team is registered with three stat systems:
BOINCStats (UC Berkley)
https://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/detail/b95b8895d166ef3b5237b05396bad08d
Free-DC (US)
https://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=teambycpid&team=LibO+Crunchers
SETIBZH (Europe) https://statsbzh.boinc-af.org/ This team registration
seems to have lapsed, will reconnect that.
Anyway, that was way more text then I intended to write. The question is
about using a wiki page to tie it all together.
Thanks and best wishes,
Drew
