Nothing beats free, especially for students who are tight on the
budget. If you don't want to shell out for the king of productivity

your needs.
I think this part: "shell out for the king of productivity software
Microsoft Office", is not necessary and this undervalues LibreOffice and
gives an impression to the user that why should them download LO when
they can get "the best" as said in the text.
I agree with that. Maybe the following works:
"If you don't want to shell out for Microsoft Office, then LibreOffice
might well be (more) than suitable for your needs."
Thanks for sharing and doing that important publication!

Yes, we all can slip up with Grammar and other things.
I am glad we are sending the announcements to these e-newsletters. We
need as many places that lets us know about these useful packages.
I found OpenOffice.org within an "Author's Note" in a book series of a
popular author [fantasy]. Later I read of LO just as the final release
candidate came out for the first version. Where I read about it, I do
not remember, but kept looking for info for a new OOo release. I tend
to let others know about the new tech news I read about, and other
important items.
