The question about resources should be addressed to technical people.
Raspberry Pi is using a dedicated version of Debian called Raspbian and
the port to ARM has happened withing the port of Debian to ARM.

In term of minimal resources, I am using LO with full features to show
large presentations (I do this intentionally) on a 2002 Acer TravelMate
with the Intel Centrino processor (single core) and 1GB of RAM based on
Linux Mint Debian Edition (but I do not know if these are the minimal
requirements).

Anyway, on this PC it works like a charm even with very large slide
decks including large images and video.

I am not aware of any comparison between LO and other software on ARM,
but the software has been available for a very short time and I do not
think anyone has had the time to test. In addition, I am not aware of
other office suites available on the Raspberry Pi.
