Hi :)
MariaDb is an excellent back-end for Base and we might be able to build up the team that is working
on Base by building up some sort of relationship with them.

MariaDB is to MySql as
LibreOffice is to OpenOffice
except that MySql is still owned Oracle so the relationship is not particularly friendly. It is
developing faster than MySql was allowed to. It has almost all the original MySql people including
the original people that started MySql in the first place. It is a drop-in replacement for MySql.

MariaDb is a good back-end for corporate or large organisations that need a decent and hefty
back-end. It's probably a lot heftier than small clubs or individuals need for a little Contacts
Mail-Merge List. The MySql connector seems to work well with it.

Regards from
Tom :)

Many of the key MariaDB developers
will be meeting in Athens, Greece
next week to discuss future MariaDB development plans. The
meeting is
being sponsored by Monty Program.

Most of the sessions are open to the public, so if you live
in the
area, please consider joining us for one or more days!

More details on the exact location (among other things) can
be found on
the Monty Program website here:

http://montyprogram.com/developer-meetings/

Even if you can't attend, if there is something you would
like to see
discussed at the meeting, send an email to athens-2011@mariadb.org
and
we'll see if we can add it to the agenda.

Also, notes and plans created during the various sessions
will be
posted to the AskMonty Knowledgebase. The Knowledgebase
category
created for the Athens developer meeting is:
http://kb.askmonty.org/en/mariadb-developer-meeting-athens

(The category is empty now, but will start filling up once
the various
sessions get under way.)

Thanks!
