Hi :)
Don't worry. That is fairly normal. Hopefully some of the issues can be sorted
out next time if there is enough of a notice period before the date the forms
are due in.

Regards from
Tom :)

LibreOffice

Hello,
sorry to disappoint.
The ITR forms that are talked about, do not work properly on Libreoffice Calc
(specifically, the macros they contain do not work properly).
I used it, and faced a lot of trouble.

For online, e-filing, of income tax returns in India, the best options remain
to fill .pdf versions of forms using adobe acrobat or microsoft excel for the
.xls version.
this is valid for 2009, 2010 and 2011 filings.

Other wise, off-line paper form filing costs about 2 euros.

Hi :)
The website that was given in the first email about this
http://freedom-matters.in/itr_forms
is quite old and there are no links from there to the forms. Can someone get

in contact with the sites web-developer and find out
1. if the more recent forms are still available this way
2. where they are
3. if the site could mention "LibreOffice and others" since Open Document
Formats can be used by quite a few different products which LibreOffice
co-operates with. I think it helps to show that our main formats work in lots

of other programs too. It's something that MS Office can't boast of.

If the newer forms are not available this way then it might be good to know
where the newer forms are in the wrong format and where the old forms are so
that there is some chance of someone being able to make newer versions.
Regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)
Could we advertise this on the LibreOffice and/or TDF websites? If this
had
happened in America i'm sure it would be up there already.

Danishka, I take it there is no problem or glitches that you want help
sorting
out first? This is some some of tax return or a census or what?
Regards from
Tom :)

"Back in 2009, we at DeepRoot discussed this sorry state of affairs. While
celebrating 62 years of Independence in our country, we decided to take up
the challenge of making this facility available to those without MS Excel.
We decided to provide it for OpenOffice, a platform independent, freely
downloadable office suite. Thanks to Mr Abhas Abhinav, CEO of DeepRoot, I
was given the task of migrating the spreadsheet in office hours. This year
2011, I once again took up the migration work and form ITR1 is once again
available for download for OpenOffice / LibreOffice."
