Hi,

My name is Pau Iranzo and I'm from Alacant (Valencian Comunity in
Spain). I would be interested in being responsible for the Catalan
(Valencian) translation. This is a variant of the Catalan language that
is spoken in this community. We have already translated other software
such us GNOME [1], KDE [2], VirtualBox [3], Mozilla[4] products and many
more to this variant.

Taking into the account that Catalan and Catalan (Valencian) are two
variants spoken in the same country, and Catalan uses the locale code
"ca_ES" or simply "ca", the locale code that we have been using on GNOME
and KDE is ca@valencia/ca-valencia. This code has been already accepted
by the IANA as a subtag registry [5].

Our main problem is that not all programs implement this subtag, so
sometimes we had to use variations like ca_XV (OpenOffice.org) or ca_VA
(VirtualBox). The first one is a workaround and the second one is not
really accurate, "VA" refers to Vaticano (and they don't speak
Valencian). For this reason I would ask the LibreOffice team for
implementing the language subtag that not only Valencian would use:
serbian and some other languages are in the same situation. If that's
not possible, ca_XV or ca_VA would be OK.

Thanks!

Pau Iranzo
