Version 4.5 beta is coming soon (April I think).
Beta is much later. Beta1 is mid/end of May. Mid April is a first
Alpha, but that basically is just a snapshot of master that is
labeled 4.5 alpha.... (i.e. no feature freeze yet, no ui or
string-freeze...)
Andras mentioned once that
all newer languages are coming on the next version.
Yes, for 4.5/master new languages will be enabled. I don't know what
the minimum translation percentage has been so far to end up in a
release build though.
My question is - I've been working on pootle on the 4.4 UI version since
there's no 4.5 UI. Does that mean that will also be able on 4.4 and 4.5?
I don't quite get what your question is, so I'll just answer in general:
Translations of 4.4 will be copied to 4.5ยน
Once this was done, you need to do your changes in both the 4.4 and
4.5 projects, as there will be no syncing in between them (you can
focus on 4.5 and apply the changes to 4.4 using translation memory or
similar tools however).
Also, a completely different question.
Is it possible to build a Windows or Mac installer for LO on Linux?
Mac: No.
Windows: there once were attempts to use mingw to cross-compile for
windows, but this never really took off, esp. as it would never work
for officially released builds (as it breaks ABI for extensions and
the like). And Microsoft's Visual Studio (and all other build
requirements) are available free of charge, so there is not really
much gain in trying to cross-compile. If you ask because you want to
check translations, then stay away, you're basically on your own and
are expected to fix stuff that fails yourself, and not ask for help to
get a build running.
Better build on actual windows (or just restrict yourself to Linux,
for checking translations that is more than enough)
I would
like to test it if that's possible.
Don't expect working instructions or an easy build. The tinderbox that
used mingw to create a somewhat-working version went out-of-service in
2012 I think, so since then code to support mingw might have been
removed or bit-rotted...
ciao
Christian
[1] technically the current 4.4 will become the working area for 4.5
and there will be a copy made to continue with 4.4, but that's a
detail only relevant for flagging of pootle's checks
And depending on how it goes with the pootle-testinstallation/the
pootle update, we will have master (rolling, continuously updated and
synced with the code), and 4.5. and 4.4 projects (synced when a
release is due)
