Ping Olivier: Document classification

Olivier,

You added a section about document classification to the chapter on
Getting Started with Writer. Can you refer me to more information than
is in the Help about how to use this, so I can put it in the Writer
Guide? For example, it appears that once a document is given a
classification, it cannot be removed, but perhaps it can be changed?
Ah, I now see that a bunch of custom properties have been added to the
Document Properties dialog for the file. I have now found that if I
delete all of those custom properties, then save and reload the file,
the classification has been removed.

Can a document be classified in more than one of the available
categories? Are the fields that you inserted into the chapter headers
necessary? I'll probably have other questions later, but those above
will do for a start.

I've been poking around the document but haven't explored all the
possibilities. If you can save me some time, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hello Jean

Olivier,

You added a section about document classification to the chapter on
Getting Started with Writer. Can you refer me to more information than
is in the Help about how to use this, so I can put it in the Writer
Guide?

I had to collect information here and there (mostly from Miklos Vajna),
use personal experience on the subject from big corporations I worked
for, build test cases and by trial and error, discover what the current
implementation does. I wrote a help page with my findings here

http://vm173.documentfoundation.org/index.html?page=swriter/classificationbar.xhp

The page will be available at 5.3 release, even if 5.2 carries the feature.

I also missed the button to remove the classification while testing but
it also means that if such button exist, users can tamper the
classification too easily.

Can a document be classified in more than one of the available
categories?

Apparently yes, but only "Intellectual property" category has a visual
impact. The other categories insert its specific fields in the
properties and no visual indication. As you will read on the help page,
the current implementation is taken from the aerospace and defense industry.

Are the fields that you inserted into the chapter headers
necessary?

This is - I believe - an solution specific to who contracted the
implementation. You can remove it if necessary.

I'll probably have other questions later, but those above
will do for a start.

It will be nice to have an expert on TSCP to comment here to help us too.

I've been poking around the document but haven't explored all the
possibilities. If you can save me some time, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

I hope this shed some light.

I'm involved in that work too. Will write some more/additional during
(hopefully) this week.
What Olivier writes is fine, by the way.
