Page Styles - problem

I am trying to create the Draw Guide 7.2, but having problem with page styles.

1. Selecting New Chapter paragraph style on a Default Page Style.
2. New Chapter moves to next page as it should, but does not change page style to First Page and remains as Default Page Style.
3. Cannot change Default Page Style to First Page.
4. After selecting New Chapter, the previous pages using Default Page Style automatically changes to Front Matter page style. Cannot change the page style back to Default Page Style.

I am using a Mac mini with macOS 12.0.1.

I am going to check this page style problem using Ubuntu to make sure it is not a macOS problem. Result lat4er this morning.

Some help would be appreciated.

Peter, look in Chapter 9, Working with Styles, in the Writer Guide. In the
section “Text flow options for paragraph styles” there is a figure* showing
the TextFlow tab of the Paragraph Style dialog. For the New Chapter
paragraph style, in the Breaks area on the upper right, be sure “With page
style” is checked, and that it’s set to First Page.
* In the full book, this is Figure 208 on page 197.

To fix the following pages, you need to change that setting on the first
paragraph (H1) of the chapter text. NOT the paragraph style in this case.
Change it to Default Page Style. This is the way it’s done in chapters, but
sometimes that gets lost when you copy-paste into the full book.

Peter,
Sorry, there’s an easier way to deal with the pages following the First
Pages, but this is only good in the compiled book*:
Go to the Organizer tab for the First Page style and change the Next Tyle
to Default Page Style.
*If you do this in the template, it will mess up chapter files.

Hello Jean

Thanks for the explanation. I did find a solution.

If you click on the gap between pages, a little box opens and it allows you to manually change the following the page style. This works better than using the Organiser page in the First Page dialog. After finding this solution, I searched the Writer help pages and found the same solution there.

I will look in the Writer Guide and see what it says. I will be hones, I am user guide writer, but very rarely refer to the user guide for the software that I am using. I know, just like a man.

Your explanation about the template has also helped. I was wondering why First Page style had has next style the Front Matter page style in Organizer.

I am now composing the Draw Guide and should be ready after Christmas.
