GS7002 Setting Up LO Check out2nd review

Festive Greetings LO Team,

I'm checking out GS7002 for second review with a goal of returning by
1/1/2021. I've updated the tracking sheet.

Happy and safe holidays to you all!

Hi folks,

Question: In text body, for example when *bolding,* are we supposed to be
using direct formatting (Ctrl+B) or Styles (Styles > Strong Emphasis)?

Context: Reading the WIP Contributors Guide chapters has not helped me
figure this out, unfortunately. I hope someone with more experience can
help clarify. I thought that Styles were preferable, however, the recent
conversation on cleaning files for translation, as well as the presence of
lots of direct formatting in the chapter I'm reviewing, have me wondering.
Headings, TOC, tables, lists, and figures already use Styles, so that is
clear for me. Thanks for any help!

Exactly that. Rever use direct formatting.

You got the message right. Styles is all good. Direct formatting is evil.

(well, use it "in extremis", namely, where styles can't be practical and
add too much style management workload)

Kind regards
Seasons greetings

Olivier

Rever -> Never

Hi Colleen,
I am surprised that you found "lots" of direct formatting in that
chapter, though we sometimes miss removing some. Could you give me an
example? Also, what Olivier said: always use styles.
Lastly: although you said you had "updated the tracking sheet", I did
not see any update on the status spreadsheet, so I added your initials
and date.
Jean

Colleen,
Not clear from your email what you’re using NextCloud desktop for, but I
hope you’re not reviewing/ editing user guide files there. You need to be
sure to download the chapter file from NextCloud and review it using LO 7.0
on your computer (not within NextCloud). Then rename the edited file and
upload to NextCloud on the web.
I haven’t used NC desktop, so I don’t know how its syncing works, but for
what we’re doing with user guides, I don’t see any advantage. I certainly
may be missing something.

Jean

Hi Colleen, how are you doing with reviewing this chapter?
Jean

Hi Jean,

Thanks for checking in and sorry for the delay. I'm currently updating some
screenshots and have a few more things to check. I plan to upload the
second review tomorrow.

GS7002 is in the WIP folder after a second review.

Tracked changes include:

   - replacing screenshots with Windows 10 versions as needed
   - alt texts now show the name of dialogs/figures for screen reader
   accessibility
   - minor character and paragraph style updates
   - revised AutoCorrect section for concision and less emphasis on
   "annoyance"
   - minor grammatical and spelling errors

I noticed some of the discussed Spell checking features don't seem to work
as expected. I will investigate further and send a Bugzilla report to the
dev team if needed.
