From your description here I cannot tell what you may be doing wrong. Indeed, you may be doing nothing wrong. Can you send me whatever file you may have managed to save so that I can check out your work? Maybe I will see a workaround for you.
Also, which version of LibreOffice are you using? More to the point, which version of my tutorials are you using? You can check them all out here:
