Proposal for filename change of guide chapters

Hello Everyone

I would like to propose a filename change that would better fit the proposed change in folder structure by DaveB, that is Work in Progress, Archive and Published. This change I do agree with as the present folders in NextCloud are not that clear as to what purpose they serve.

First draft of chapter.
So that a history of development is created, I think that the filename should include a version number with the initials of the creator. For example IG7006-FormattingGraphicObjects-01-PS.odt. This file would be placed in the Work in Progress folder.
After first review the filename changes to include the reviewer’s initials, for example IG7006-FormattingGraphicObjects-01-PS-DB.odt. This file would be placed in the Work in Progress folder.

Second draft of chapter
Any changes from the reviewer are carried out normally by the creator and the filename is changed to IG7006-FormattingGraphicObjects-02-PS.odt. This file would be placed in the Work in Progress folder.
After second review the filename changes to include the reviewer’s initials, for example IG7006-FormattingGraphicObjects-02-PS-DB.odt. This file would be placed in the Work in Progress folder.
Files from the first draft of the chapter, that is 01, are place in the Archive folder.

Published chapter
The filename is changed to IG7006-FormattingGraphicObjects.odt and is place in the Published folder.
Files from the second draft of the chapter, that is 01, are place in the Archive folder.
The Archive folder would then contain a history of the development of a chapter and referred to enough necessary.

I realise that this would mean a change to the Contributors' Guide, Also, contributors must strictly follow the regime of file naming.

+1 from me.

I have to update the Contributors' Guide for the change in the NextCloud
folder structure and if Peter's proposal is accepted I can (with Peter's
approval) include this as part of that update.

Dave

Hi Peter, all.
Good proposal, however, I believe that was what the *date* in the name was
trying to achieve.
For me, keeping track of version numbers instead of date could be more
demanding.

Hello Dave

You definitely have my approval to include my proposal in the Contributors Guide, that is if it gets approval.

The reason why I have used two digit for the version number is to allow for sorting in computer systems. You cannot relay on the the creation or modify dates for sorting because we do not know how volunteers’ computers are setup.

Hi Peter,

I am a "simple" lad, so a "simple" two digit version numbering works for
me. Doubt that we will ever reach version 10, but...

Maybe it works for Randolph too.
