Hello Steve,

Once again, many thanks for the feedback, as always they provide me a
great learning opportunity.

About the matters:

1) The square brackets are OK, but I still feel strange about the
semicolons positions:
Maybe instead of this:
GETPIVOTDATA(TargetField; pivot table[; Field 1; Item 1][; ... [Field 126;
Item 126]]

It could be something like this:
GETPIVOTDATA(TargetField; pivot table; [Field 1; Item 1];...; [Field 126;
Item 126])

2) Sorry, I did not notice that. I'm gonna keep that in mind for the next
reviews.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Re-send of previous email, hopefully with more legible formatting!
Sorry.

Hi Felipe,

Many thanks for another thorough and helpful review. The chapter is back
in the Draft folder for second review.

Two matters arising:

(1) Syntax of the GETPIVOTDATA function. The syntax specified in the
first draft of this chapter matches the help and is believed to be correct.
The Calc Functions wiki area is very much a work in progress (see below),
and the syntax quoted there is not currently correct. I have rejected your
proposed change to the first syntax variation but have included a note to
explain that the square brackets are present to indicate optional
parameters (which I hope helps).

(2) One tip concerning the changes that you have proposed for various
formulas to use the Code character style. If the formula is in a separate
paragraph which has already been set to the Code paragraph style, then you
do not need to also set the Code character style. Not a problem, just a
note for saving time in the future.

Just for everybody's information, the Calc Functions wiki area is soon to
undergo a major overhaul under the Google Summer of Documents 2020 program.
This will resolve the sort of problem mentioned above, along with many
others!

Regards,

Steve

Hello everyone,

Steve,

Just uploaded the first review on the CG7008 - Pivot Tales in the
Feedback folder.
I did manage to reproduce and understand all the directions made in the
document, so the review contains just a few minor suggestions.

The Calc Status Guide has been updated.

Best regards,

Recently I have bought new tower computer and have dual booted Windows

A in rows 1-10. In B1 I entered this formula: ATAN(A1). Then I drug this
formula down to B10. Then I pressed "Ctrl+`". Cell B1-B10 changed from the
arc tangent values to the formulas. So, this is not a bug for the
pre-releases that I use. I will update the bug a little later today.

Hello Dan,

Apparently it's something with the release version. I did the report
on Bugzilla (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=136129)
and this was confirmed by another user, with the 7.1.0.0.alpha0+ version.
In my case, I have installed the 7.0.0.3 version on Ubuntu (20.04 as
well).

Hi Felipe,

I am a little concerned about the failure of the View > Show
Formula
shortcut on your system. I have seen this shortcut work on an
Ubuntu
installation (albeit using LO 6.4) running in a Virtual Terminal in
VMware. If there's a problem with the Linux implementation in this
respect, we'll need to update Appendix A as well.

Does the menu option contain the string "Ctrl+`" in your
installation? It is simply that the shortcut doesn't work? Are we
in
"bug" territory again?

Steve

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the feedback!

About the shortcut, I"m currently using Linux (Ubuntu), but it
could
be a distribution difference. May I suggest something like this:

Formulas can be toggled on / off in the menu option View > Show
Formula, and, depending on the operational system, by the shortcut
Ctrl+` (grave accent).

About the multi-threading, I can understand that this could be
useful
information for advanced users.

Hi Felipe,

Many thanks for the comments on Chapter 7 (Using Formulas and
Functions). I have actioned most of the points you raised, and
the
document is now in the Draft for second review.

A few matters arising:
In the section entitled “Compatibility with other spreadsheet
applications”, I’ve amended the number of functions that are
unique to
Calc. It now reads 30, to match the functions listed on the
referenced
wiki page, rather than the total number stated on that page!
With regards to your comment that the keyboard shortcut
associated with
View > Show Formula does not work for you. I believe that the
shortcut
works on Windows and Linux, but I do not think there is a
corresponding
key sequence for macOS. This is already reflected in Appendix A
and I
have updated the Tip after Figure 19 to clarify further.
In the section entitled “Multi-threading”, I decided to retain
the last
paragraph. I think it is quite legitimate to draw a reader’s
attention
to there being other ways (for power users) to control
multi-threading,
even though they are not described in the guide.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Steve

All,

I have finished updating Appendices A (Keyboard Shortcuts) and

matter or the template used for these chapters (other than
adding
your
name to the list of contributors of course!)

Subject: Calc Guide v7.0

Hi All,

I have started a detailed read through the chapters of
the 6.4
Calc
Guide to identify the changes needed for 7.0.

The first two chapters (0 - Preface and 1 -
Introduction)
have
been
updated and placed in the appropriate Draft folder
within
NextCloud.
Please could somebody find time to perform a first
review of
these
chapters?

Echoing Peter Schofield's comments in relation to the
Impress
Guide,
please do not waste time reviewing the front matter
or the
template
used for these chapters (other than adding your name
to the
list of
contributors of course!). I will sort out these
aspect prior
to
publication, once the 7.0 template is finalised.

Regards and thanks,

Steve Fanning
