Calc Guide v7.0

Hello Steve,

Thank you very much for the feedback!

Regarding the bugs, I did a few actions to try to resolve it without
success, as I didn't want to delay the review even more, I decided to put
the warning in the comments. For now, I'm gonna look a little deeper in
those issues, and confirming that it's not some configuration issue I will
definitely report a bug.

About the text in the Data labels dialog, I can see now how it is important
to alert the user. In this case, may I suggest inserting the text that you
wrote? It would be something like:
"If you selected a data series, Calc displays data labels for that data
series using default settings (and it will remain displayed even if you
press Cancel on the dialog)..."

As for the commas, that was something I didn't know about. I will keep that
in mind in the next Calcs reviews, thanks for the heads up!

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Hello Team,

I've uploaded Chapter 4 to the Feedback folder (noted changes on the Status
spreadsheet). Steve, I think many of your changes are cohesive and really
enhanced the document's readability/directionality.

Cheers,
Sam.

Hi team!

I'll be giving Chapter 6 it's first review and aim to have it back in the Feedback folder by Wednesday next week.

Cheers,
Annie

All,

I have finished updating Chapter 7, Using Formulas and Functions, and placed the file in the Draft folder ready for first review.

As with earlier chapters, please do not waste time reviewing the front matter or the template used for this chapter (other than adding your name to the list of contributors of course!)

Regards,

Steve

Hi Samantha,

Many thanks for your thorough and helpful comments.

Not much to report in terms of matters arising, other than to point out that I've included a note in the "Deleting a template" section. This clarifies that moving or deleting a template does not adversely affect a document that uses that template. The document will retain the styles that it originally inherited from that template. One slight quirk that I've mentioned is that the File > Properties > General page can indicate the name of a template that no longer exists.

The updated document is in the Draft folder, with all changes accepted, awaiting second review.

Regards,

Steve

Hi folks,

Chapter 6 is reviewed and in the Feedback folder.
I've accepted all the (solid) changes from Steve. There's some moving around of text to help with readability / figure location.

Re: Send to Bluetooth - I've left a comment in there as well, but it would appear to me that it's an existing bug that is still being fixed (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58454)? Don't know if that helps with how we might address the issue...

Cheers,
Annie

Hi Annie,

Thanks for that. I'm buried in the lengthy Chapter 9 at the moment so it might be a day or two before I review your comments.

In the meantime I have consulted with Olivier and we have decided that, for the moment, we will not mention the (non-working) Send to Bluetooth option in the 7.0 Calc Guide.

Steve

Hello everyone,

Steve,

Just uploaded a first review on the CG7007 - FormulasAndFunction.

Only a few minor suggestions. The chapter is very well written and I
managed to reproduce and understand every step and orientation.

I'm checking out the CG7008 - Pivot Tables for a first review. Expect to
return it by Thursday (27Ago2020).

The Calc Status Guide has been updated.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Hi Felipe,

Many thanks for the comments on Chapter 7 (Using Formulas and Functions). I have actioned most of the points you raised, and the document is now in the Draft for second review.

A few matters arising:
In the section entitled “Compatibility with other spreadsheet applications”, I’ve amended the number of functions that are unique to Calc. It now reads 30, to match the functions listed on the referenced wiki page, rather than the total number stated on that page!
With regards to your comment that the keyboard shortcut associated with View > Show Formula does not work for you. I believe that the shortcut works on Windows and Linux, but I do not think there is a corresponding key sequence for macOS. This is already reflected in Appendix A and I have updated the Tip after Figure 19 to clarify further.
In the section entitled “Multi-threading”, I decided to retain the last paragraph. I think it is quite legitimate to draw a reader’s attention to there being other ways (for power users) to control multi-threading, even though they are not described in the guide.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Steve

Hello Steve,

Thanks for the feedback!

About the shortcut, I"m currently using Linux (Ubuntu), but it could be a
distribution difference. May I suggest something like this:

Formulas can be toggled on / off in the menu option *View > Show Formula*,
and, depending on the operational system, by the shortcut *Ctrl*+*`* (grave
accent).

About the multi-threading, I can understand that this could be useful
information for advanced users.

Best regards,
Felipe Viggiano

Hi Felipe,

I am a little concerned about the failure of the View > Show Formula shortcut on your system. I have seen this shortcut work on an Ubuntu installation (albeit using LO 6.4) running in a Virtual Terminal in VMware. If there's a problem with the Linux implementation in this respect, we'll need to update Appendix A as well.

Does the menu option contain the string "Ctrl+`" in your installation? It is simply that the shortcut doesn't work? Are we in "bug" territory again?

Regards,

Steve

I use Ubuntu 20.04 and 7.0.1.1 (pre-release) from the LibreOffice website. "Ctrl+`" works just like View > Show Formula. Now there might be a problem with Ubuntu's release of LibreOffice...
