Track changes in Calc

The Calc 4.x Guide has a description and screenshot of the Accept or Reject
Changes dialog (now called Manage Changes), in which any comments made on
changes are shown along with automatically generated descriptions of the
changes and their authors.

The Manage Changes dialog in Calc 6.2 on my system (macOS Mojave) does not
show the comments. I’ve been unable to find any info on whether this is a
design change or a bug, and I’ve not had a chance to check on Windows or
Linux to see if it’s the same there. Does anyone know if it’s a feature
change or a bug?

This works for me on Linux with 6.2.3, so maybe it is a macOS-specific bug?

Ilmari

Works for me LO 6.2.3.2 on Win7 & 10 x64 and Linux, which suggests a bug
in the macOS edition.

Dave

Thanks for quick replies! I will check Bugzilla next.

Jean

I finally had a chance to check on my Linux box, though not yet on Windows.
Descriptions of the changes themselves are listed, but the
user-written *comments* on those changes do NOT show for me in the
Manage Changes dialog. LO 6.2.3.2 on Linux Mint.

And now I've checked my file in Windows 10. Same issue as on macOS and Linux.
Not sure why Dave and Ilmari did not see the same as I do, unless my
original description was not clear.

I have also checked Bugzilla and not found a filed bug, though I can
never find bugs by searching. I'll try to find time to file my own bug
report, but it probably won't be soon.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure what to do about updating Chapter 11. Some
screenshots need replacing (the current ones are of very poor
quality), but I'm unable to get a pic of what's described, or verify
that the description is correct. I guess I'll do what I can and return
it unfinished for someone else to deal with.

Using 6.2 I can add comments to tracked changes:
Edit->Track Changed->Comment

Those comments are displayed in the Manage Comments dialog.

Naturally comments added to a Cell with either Insert->Comment or context
menu "Insert Comment" are not the same as tracked change comments, but I
know you know that and so why say it, only because personally I've gone
around in circles at times over something I already knew.

That said, I'm now using Linux/KDE5 and there are serious bug with the
Manage Comments dialog in Calc (blanking out the cell contents of whichever
cell has focus when it is displayed.

So off to the issue tracker to see if reported yet and if not will do so.

Best wishes,

Drew

Figured I should follow up.

Still not sure how to help with the tracked changes comments but turns out
the bug I found with 6.2.3 is fixed in the 6.2.4 RC1 binary and in the 6.3
Alpha1 binary so will not be opening an issue.
I did notice that with both of those newer builds the automatic comments
(description of changes) and any explicit changes added to the change
record are displayed when the user hovers over an affected cell. I don't
recall that being the case with earlier releases. If that is new I suppose
the Guide should reflect that also but you will need the latest binaries to
see it in action.

My response inline. Thank you, Drew! Jean

AHA! That is the secret. I had been using "Insert Comment" from the
context menu.

I shall make sure the chapter includes a suitable note or warning about this.
