NextCloud + LibreOffice Online for ODFAuthors: Is it a good idea?

Hi All

Lets talk about Nextcloud and LOOL for ODFAuthors. Is it a good idea?

There is a proposal under consideration that we move from ODFAuthors to
NextCloud LibreOffice Online as our working platform.

So Andreas should wait with continuing his work until we have a
decision? Otherwise he perhaps does a lot of work for the waste paper bin.

What is NextCloud and LibreOffice Online (NC+LOOL)?

Hi Olivier, all,

I would like to add a side note for those not working in English,
NextCloud support a lot of languages and LibreOffice will open in the
language you chose if you have localized it.

Cheers
Sophie

To talk: +1

For NC with LOOL:
As I want to have it since 2 years ago [1]: +1

LibreOffice Online is a NextCloud plugin (app) that allows direct
edition of Chapters inside the cloud storage. That is an interesting
feature and worth the change. Here are some of the use cases:

And we are testing it and so help the QA.

Do I need to be a member of TDF to use a possible new ODFAuthor service?

The current testing environment requires TDF membership. For Authors
production, an exclusive NC+LOOL can be considered without the mandatory
membership.

Otherwise it would be a NoGo for doing the work in a wider community.
Some people are very active but no members. Or even you can get a member
when you do documentation work but you can't do documentation work
because you aren't member.

Hi Sophie,

Plone supports a lot of languages too and you could let the browser
choose the appropriate for you.

Cheers,
Andreas

What do you mean by "if you have localized it"? Do you mean non-English speakers should first localize (translate) something into their own language?

Best,

I mean if LibreOffice on line has been localized by the l10n community
and is made available in your language
