compatibility issues with most recent update

To whom it may concern:

I am having difficulty updating Libreoffice, is the new version compatible with windows version 8.1?

Thank You,

Doug Guiffre

It would be much easier to assist you if you described in some detail what your problem is. If there might be a compatibility issue, you could work around it using the Program Compatibility troubleshooter <cid:part1.03060808.07070706@swdetroit.com>. [The URL is the version for Windows 7, but the W8 version should be similar.]

However, I doubt that there was a compatibility issue in your case. Perhaps, you downloaded a corrupted installer file or otherwise installed 4.2 improperly. The parallel 4.2.0.0 and 4.2.0.1 versions both work fine here on a 4-processor, 64-bit Windows 7 Professional SP1 system.

Hi Doug,

How did you update? What was the difficulty you encountered?

Where did you grab the new version from? What version is this? what was the last version you had success with?

Cheers

Hi
1. Updating really means upgrading. LibreOffice develops tooo fast
for tiny updates to be worthwhile so you just have to get a whole
upgrade in one go, rather than multiple tiny updates. The little
green "update" button should open a new tab in your web-browser that
takes you straight to the official website's download page. Upgrading
means installing/reinstalling a newer version of LibreOffice.

2. Which web-browser do you use by default? If you click on a link
in an email, such as this one
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
then does that open in "Internet Explorer" or something else? IE
often has problems, particularly on public holidays when there is
often a spike in incidence of malware. Whichever web-browser you were
using it is worth trying a different one just to see if that does make
a difference. I generally have 2 or 3 web-browsers although i usually
stick with only using 1 of them for almost everything. Most of these
lists seem dubious to me. IE or Chrome at the top hints at the author
not really knowing their stuff imo

3. There are many legitimate places to get LibreOffice from but if
you have somehow run into problems with 1 of them then try the
official LibreOffice website just to make sure you get the real thing.
The normal downloads link should auto-detect your OS and language
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
but there are various links to help correct it if it somehow makes a
mistake or if you are downloading for a different machine. The
following link was after i chose the Windows download in English for
the UK.
