Apple mountain lion will not allow libreoffice to be installed.

I need assistance in using your program. LibreOffice.
Having downloaded your program, attempting to install it I receive a message that it cannot be installed because it is from an unrecognized developer. (sic)

What do I do to use this program?

Richard Lawrence

Hello Richard

Not knowing which operating system you are using, then it is difficult to advise.

Go to http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/installation/ and the instructions for each major operating system are there.

I know if you are using Windows, you will get a warning message about the security when you install LibreOffice. Just carry on installing. With Mac OS, you will get a warning message when you first start LibreOffice after installation. Again just carry on.

There is nothing wrong with LibreOffice as a developer. Sometimes it is other more commercial companies that are a bit slow in recognising a good package of office software.

Peter, the subject line says Apple Mountain Lion.

Hello Jean and Richard

It is early morning for me and the coffee is still working its way through.

I know LibreOffice installs no problem under Lion, Snow Leopard and Leopard Mac operating systems. You just get the warning when you first run LibreOffice.

Richard
Is your Mountain Lion an upgrade from Lion or a brand new install? If it an upgrade, then all I can suggest is a downgrade to Lion, install LibreOffice, open and close the program to make sure it works. If everything is OK, trying upgrading to Mountain Lion again.

I know there has been one or two incompatible problems with Mountain Lion which is usual for an operating systems. I cannot test this one because I do not have Mountain Lion installed - my Macs are too old.

Richard,

MacOSX Mountain Lion has a security feature that prevents non-Apple approved developers from opening after installation. Either go into System Preferences then Security & Privacy and change the settings to allow downloaded from "anywhere".

OR Once installed bring up an "open" option and hold down the fn key while clicking on OPEN. This will give the usual warnings about downloaded do you wish to open it as in previous version of Mac OSX in other words go OK.

On Mac OSX Mountain Lion every update you manually down load this security feature will require you to do either of above.

Hi all

I failed to mention that you only need to do it when you open it the first time. Subsequent times you just have open normally.

Ian

Might this be pat of the answer?

I wrote a short tutorial on how to overcome this problem:

http://www.italovignoli.org/2012/08/libreoffice-and-mountain-lion-macos-x-10-8/

Actually, LibreOffice binaries are signed, but the way they are signed
does not comply with the new Apple rules.

Developers are working on the Apple signature issue.

Hi,

some more users should benefit from that excellent tutorial:

Please tell me what I should do to fulfill this objective.

This is a link to the PDF version, which is quite nice looking (it is
made with Joliprint): http://prin.tt/Pw1Y2o

Hi
Looks superb!  Nice screen-shots and generally a great walk-through that should give people more confidence about strolling straight through the temporary blocker.  It also teaches them a little more about using their computer when the same issue happens with other programs and games, as i'm sure it will.

Can someone put it on the Publications wiki-page?

It's already there. Look under Installation.
