Open Help Conference & Sprints

Hi
I thought a couple of people here might be interested in this event 11-15 Aug 2012.

Hi all,

I just wanted to follow up on this. I'm the conference organizer,
and a long-time contributor to GNOME documentation. Open Help has
two days of presentations and open discussion, followed by three
days of multiple-team sprints.

Last year we had some great presentations, but amazing discussions.
We all do things a little differently, and we can all learn a lot
from each other when we have a diverse group in one place.

I also think co-located are hugely beneficial. Every team does its
own thing, but occasionally we all get together to share thoughts
and take a break.

LibreOffice seems to have a really active documentation team, and
I'd love to have some of you at the conference, and better still,
at the sprints. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks,
Shaun

Friends of OpenDocument Inc could help fund travel and accommodation expenses for someone suitable to attend this event as a representative of the LibreOffice Docs Team.

Unfortunately, most of the active members of the team (that I'm aware of) are not located in North America, so the time and expense involved in getting to the conference are probably not practical. I would love to go myself, and have the time available, but Australia is too far away and I'm avoiding entering the USA anyway.

Should this be forwarded to the US/NA marketing team to see if there is anyone available?

Hi
It would be great to forwards it to the main marketing team
marketing@global.libreoffice.org
and the US/North American one.  It might be a good idea to keep my name out of it and also the bit about "Friends of...".  TDF has it's own funds.  Suggesting getting a 3rd party to pay might result in none of the organisations helping as each think the other is covering it.  A lot of the BoD is on the marketing list apparently.

Hi
There is an excellent event coming up fairly soon and it would be fantastic to have a few people there.

It is primarily aimed at people in the Documentation Team but most of that team are in Europe or Australia and the rest seem to be mostly scattered across Asia.  So, it would be expensive and impractical for any of them to attend.  Is there anyone in North America area that might like to go and represent the Docs Team and "wave the LO flag" (is there a banner?)?

If anyone would like to go is there any chance of joining the Docs Team for a while just to get an overview of how things are done in their team?

An excellent event coming to North America... So far so good. But
this covers a very large territory from the southern Mexico to northern
Canada (according to my geography lessons in the USA). Seems like a
little bit of information is missing: where in North America.

Cincinnati, OH; actually Newport, KY which is across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.

HI
Cincinnati, OH?  I guess that means Ohio?

OH is the official US Postal Service (USPS) abbreviation for Ohio and KY is the same for Kentucky. All US states have an officialy USPS two letter abbreviation. A usage note: the abbreviation is all-capitals.

Well, I know I kept saying I wouldn't come to the conference (despite
being very interested), but I'm being lobbied heavily by friends in
the USA to visit them this (northern) summer, and people have offered
to help fund my travel, so I'm reconsidering. Might be able to bookend
the trip with OSCON; that would be awesome!

Among other things, I'm very interested in the open source style guide
you wrote about separately. And, of course, talking about LibreOffice
documentation. Would like to know more about the other sprints
scheduled.
