Lubos plans to hide the GL checkbox (in the near future), so that you
will be able to just switch between GDI and Skia. We want to phase out
GDI as well sooner or later, but hiding non-Skia from the users would be
probably too early.

You already opened
<https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132323> regarding
this, I guess easiest if the discussion remains there, at a single
place. :-)

However, being able to configure the backend at a common place is suggests
these are actively supported, IMHO

Absolutely. It simplifies everything if users only see a single backend,
so you don't need to ask which one they customized. But we also need to
take into account that the skia backend is new, so taking control away
from users to go back to non-Skia this fast would be probably
controversial.

Regards,

Miklos
