Ah, right. What I guess nobody took into account at that time is the question of a stable interface between the icon set provider (the extension) and its consumer (the core LO code). I have no idea what that interface actually looks like (i.e., how does the core LO code access a specific icon within an icon set---by relative file pathname?), to judge whether or not stability of that interface is a major issue we should be worried about.
