Even if it's updated more frequently, it'll never show your local changes. :-) 'make id' / 'make tags' can do that, and it's up to you how often you run them, perhaps give them a try. There are detailed notes at <https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/Vim#ctags> for the tags/vim combo.
