FWIW, there was some work related to that, see the "[mono]" patches at http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?h=distro/suse/suse-4.0&qt=grep&q=mono but they weren't ever in master, nor anybody ported them to 4.1+. Just in case someone is interested in this, then don't start from scratch, but first pick up those patches as a start.
