I assume I could be able to fill the gaps between "real world Java" and "college C++" with some help from manuals and tutorials before starting. Wishful thinking?
Sure, don't worry about that too much.
Right, tonight or tomorrow I'm gonna clone the source and try one out. Do I just post a git diff as suggested by the Wiki for the time being?
Best to commit locally, then submit to gerrit or to this list, as described here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/GetInvolved
Do I need to worry about duplicating someone else's effort?
In general, no. However it's a good idea to add something like "I plan to look into this, I expect to finish it within a week" or so; this way others won't look into it right now, but still if you forget about it, someone else can look into it half year later. :) HTH, Miklos
