Ah, thanks for making us aware.  I hadn't bothered to look into that unused
function's provenance.  It just caused a (Mac OS X Clang --enable-werror)
build to fail, so I bluntly removed it.

It was ok. It was only a problem while I had my 20+ commits unpushed and each removed method made rebasing much worse. Regards, Markus
