Hello,

for the mere use of converting documents of different formats to PDF or
HTML in Etherpad Lite which currently uses AbiWord for this purpose

I need some information how to configure

+ LibreOffice(releases, and also developer version from SVN)
+ for a headless server (hosted virtual machine)
+ i.e. without uneeded "Desktop" modules

what does that mean exactly?

+ for mere commandline use.
+ on OpenSuse, on Debian

it works out of the box: there is a --headless option to "soffice" that
lets it work without a X11 display, using the "svp" VCLplug. you still
need some X11 libraries and fontconfig etc. installed, but compared to
the LibreOffice install size those are a rounding error.
