 No, I'm not. It's what we do by default, so asking why we do it is a good 
question.

 Oh, it is. It either does work, or it does not. If it does not, configure 
should bail out. If it does work, whatever my definition of meaning of that 
is, then it does work for me.

 This may be more difficult for a packager, but then I'm not a packager.

 The choice has already been made, and it's whatever we ship as our internal
