        Sounds rather grim, as you say :-)

        Can't we more simply make the text selectable by using a different VCL
widget to present it ? that might solve the problem without these
unfortunate UI changes / side-effects.

        Copying the text to the clipboard is a real minority use-case and
doesn't deserve a prominent button in every dialog IMHO.
