It is not a requirement to have no ports installed. But the build only
works if none of that stuff gets pulled into the build.
Easiest solution is to remove fink/macports from PATH, in the shell
you use for configuring. Maybe have a different user for that (you
can sudo su all around in your normal login)?
Then provide patches to make sure that the "dirty" stuff from
macports/fink/... doesn't get pulled in.
That's the preferred solution, yep.
