cross-compiling work it should all happen on master since everyone needs

Similarly, the VCL / android backend can be conditionally compiled on
master too - so I'm not sure what a branch would be good for.
i am sure until we iron things out there will be lots of breakages that
we should keep out of master.

hype :-)
