Is this perhaps on Windows? git has problems replacing files that are in use on Windows, so if a 
git command attempts to replace the very g script that is being run, it will fail silently, the end 
result being that g disappears. Just do a git reset --hard HEAD in the bootstrap clone to get it 
back.
