At least I'm not aware of any - thing is, higher-level functionality
in LibO currently ~always assumes a running installation, mainloop,
uno etc. - at least reducing that is one of the things being worked
on, since it also makes unit testing a lot easier.

That's at least heartening! I've not been paying enough attention, obviously ... who is working on this? I'd like to know more because I think this would be an extremely useful endeavor -- especially in terms of unit testing.
