It seems that the consensus (or at least, this is what I propose), is
that this is indeed a good idea. IMHO we should also add to your list
the bus-load of random, and the old (pre-ODF) .sx* formats as too[1].
It seems we should keep the code to do this, it can be useful, but hide
them from users in some way. Either by adapting the 'Export' code to do
this, or adding some further filtering in the file or options dialog to
show/hide these extra filters.

Agreed :-) it would make (as Cedric says) a great easy hack I hope.
Adding it to the wiki there (with a few code pointers) would be far more
effective than filing a bug.
